Methodology & Sources
Depreciation & Resale Data
Depreciation figures are calculated from eBicycles.ai's proprietary database of 66+ verified e-bike resale listings across 31 brands. Each listing includes original MSRP, resale price, model year, make, and model. Depreciation is calculated as the percentage difference between MSRP and resale price. This data is unique to eBicycles.ai and is continuously updated as new listings are added. Try it yourself with our resale value calculator.
Market Size & Growth
Market size figures are sourced from and cross-referenced against publicly available industry reports by Fortune Business Insights, Mordor Intelligence, Statista, and the Light Electric Vehicle Association (LEVA). US unit sales figures are informed by NPD Group / Circana bicycle industry tracking data and the People for Bikes annual reports.
Theft Statistics
Theft data is compiled from Project 529 (Bike Index), the National Bike Registry, municipal police department reports, and insurance industry aggregates from Velosurance and Markel. GPS recovery rates are from published reports by Apple (Find My network), Tile, and dedicated e-bike GPS providers.
Battery & Range
Battery capacity and range averages are calculated from manufacturer specifications across 200+ models tracked by eBicycles.ai. Cell cost data is sourced from BloombergNEF's annual lithium-ion battery price survey.
Commuting Data
Commuting statistics draw from the US Census Bureau American Community Survey, Portland State University Transportation Research and Education Center (TREC), and the European Cyclists' Federation. CO2 savings calculations use EPA per-mile emission factors for passenger vehicles.
